10th April 2022: Twitch Affiliate Achieved!

Aiks, once again, it's been a while since I update.

Usually, when I update here, it's meant to be a post to vent out something that's upset me. But this entry, is a happy one.

A few weeks ago, I submitted a request for a 1 month unpaid leave. Reason being, I want to take care of my mental and emotional health. The management was very understanding and they allowed me so.

I even started the unpaid leave early so I'd have a total of 5 weeks to myself without work.

When the unpaid leave started, Lottichu suggested I can take up Vtubing. Just to see if it's something that would interest me and where I could go with that.

When I was younger, I'd wanted to be a radio DJ but as time goes, my interest directed to streaming. (Shall have another post on this interest.)

At that point of time, I was feeling low and hardly anything interested me, so I decided why not?

To be honest, I am someone who can hardly entertain the thought of stepping out of my comfort zone. As much as I am interested in streaming, I never had the motivation to do anything to get it going. But this time, I was propelled into getting somewhere for a few reasons:
  • Lottichu offered to help me get my first model, was more excited than me to get it. LOL. The only regret was that I didn't get the model she suggested me to get and someone else got the model by the time I said I want it.
  • Lottichu then helped me set up a public model that has a few customising options (hair length, hair colour, and the colour of the clothings).
  • Lottichu launched into hunting mode and found nice overlays and transition scenes that would match and helped me got those things set up.
  • Lottichu helped me set up everything including widgets and BGM.
  • Lottichu taught me how to use VTube Studios.
  • Lottichu scheduled 2 game nights with me so we could play something together.
And there was a clear goal -- To get Twitch Affiliate.

The requirements to that were to be achieved in the span of 30 days:
  • Streaming for 8 hours.
  • Streaming for at least 7 days.
  • 3 views on average (including raids).
The journey to Affiliate was quite a pleasant one! Lottichu advised a lot the moment I agreed to try out Vtubing. She was guiding me along on the creation of a Twitter account, my Twitch account and what I could spent my time doing, which is to update the profiles, and follow people in the SGVT community.

The timeline of my journey is as such:

24 Mar 2022 -- Lottichu bought the model.
27 Mar 2022 -- Creation of Twitter and Twitch account.
29 Mar 2022 -- Setting up of Streamlabs.
03 Apr 2022 -- 100 followers on Twitch, and test stream!
04 Apr 2022 -- (Day 1/7) Debut stream, introduced myself to the Twitch world, and played Valorant.
05 Apr 2022 -- (Day 2/7) Jackbox night + a bit of Doto with Chiyoko and Gee.
06 Apr 2022 -- (Day 3/7) Random heroes all the way in Doto with (TBC).
07 Apr 2022 -- (Day 4/7) MechWarrior, then Doto with (TBC).
08 Apr 2022 -- (Day 5/7) Jackbox night, then Doto with (TBC).
09 Apr 2022 -- (Day 6/7) Touch Online, then Valorant.
10 Apr 2022 -- (Day 7/7) Audition Next Level, then Valorant!

With the viewers interacting with me via chat to guide me along in the games and new friends to play games with, the hours were easily hit. 50 followers was also achieved even before I started streaming. So the only thing left was the views to maintain and the days to hit, which called for the 7 days-consecutive-stream challenge.

Today, I am please to just immortalise the moment down here, that on 9th Apr 2022, 23:40 HRS, I received an email invitation from Twitch to become an Affiliate!

To be honest, I don't think becoming Twitch Affiliate itself is a super huge thing. What was huge was that, I set a goal for myself, and I achieved it. And in the journey of hitting that goal (plus the tinier goals to reach that big goal), I've made new friends (some of whom have been really inclusive and supportive), and found back my love for an interest, and in games. I'm also feeling more motivated to step out of the comfort zone, because I found new games I kinda like, while doing so.

The next levelling up would be to hit Twitch Partner.

The requirements to that were to be achieved in the span of 30 days (from 13 Mar to 11 Apr):
  • Streaming for 25 hours. (I've done 33.11.)
  • Streaming for at least 12 days. (I've done 8.)
  • 75 views on average (excluding raids). (Mine's at 10.15.)
The journey to Partner would be quite a far one, and to be honest, it feels quite daunting to think about how I'd be able to get there from where I am now. But I got to keep reminding myself that this is a journey where I don't have to rush.

There's a motivational quote that I've recently been reminding myself of which goes something along the lines of, "It's like driving a car at night in the dark and all you can see is the next 200m ahead where your headlights shine. But all you need is actually the next 200m to see where you're going and eventually you'll get there."

So... I guess, instead of questioning whether I can get there or when I will get there, I rather choose to believe that I will get there. With this faith, I work on what I can, with what I have, and see where I'll get to.

I'll be off to a cruise from 11-14 Apr, having a staycay on 15 Apr, and streaming ANL Tournament on 17 Apr. It will be a chillax + fun week and I'm excited about it!

Thank you Universe, for all all the blessings bestowed upon me. I'll do my best to continue cherishing them well.
