14th May 2018: Triggered at Work
[17:44]
Honestly, I don't mind working extra hours. I don't mind putting in extra efforts.
As an employee, all I ask is that my welfare gets well taken care of. If I have to stay back for work, sure. Allow me to leave earlier on other days. Or reach office late some other days.
If I have to get up extra early to reach an event ground, sure. At least allow me to claim transport because it's extra travelling time and cost especially if it's somewhere far.
I am being asked to go down to RWS tomorrow and to reach there at 8.30am. Travelling there already cost more than my usually travelling expenses, not to mention entry into RWS if I am gonna take the monorail in.
When I asked if I can claim for transport, boss said no. Reason being it's not ulu. Just go to Harbourfront. I don't think he understands. It's not about how ulu the place is, but how much other factors affect the travelling and performance later in the day.
In order to reach the event ground at 8.30am sharp, I have to leave house by 7am or even earlier. In order to look presentable because it is an event, I have to wake up by maybe 6.15am to make some effort to look presentable.
Of course, I agree that it within my jobscope to assist in company's events. And therefore, it is only right that I wake up early to support the team. But this is only right if I am actually paid for the extra hours and extra expenses that goes into the travelling. Food at RWS ain't cheap too you know.
Nope, I don't think I am a self-entitled employee. I searched my conscience and know I am willing to give more to the company but the triggering point is that my company seem to take my welfare for granted. Yes the boss mentioned that we can leave earlier next time when things settled down more, but work is never ending, business is always on going. How long will that be before we can rightfully claim (unofficially somemore) the work that we have done on this particular day?
